Hi reader,
Welcome to Uncharted Territories, a community for everyone who enjoys exploring the outdoors, one hike at a time.
We’re Jamie and Ludo, an outdoorsy couple based in West Yorkshire. We’ve been sustainably walking around all the beautiful areas and national parks around us for the past 4 years. For us, this means hopping on a bus or train, cycling or car sharing with friends to explore places together. This doesn’t mean we’re perfectly sustainable; we’re far from it, but it’s a step in the right direction that’s feasible for us and fits our lifestyle.
We don’t own a car, so we always have to be creative and find alternative ways to get to the places we love. I discovered that this is surprisingly not that difficult in the UK! Some of the beautiful national parks dotted around the country, such as the Yorkshire Dales, the Peak District and the Lake District, are very accessible by public transport. Did you know that there’s a bus that takes you from Wetherby and Leeds to Bolton Abbey, Grassington and Buckden? Convenient, isn’t it?
So, what’s Uncharted Territories and what can you expect from it? Uncharted Territories is a platform where we document our adventures and share them with you. Our blog posts will include walking routes, our favourite places and tips to get around by public transport. We’ll also post recaps of our holidays and camping trips. We have plans to launch a podcast in the future, but we’re taking our sweet time perfecting it.
On Uncharted Territories, you can find inspiration (and motivation 🙂) to get out there, explore what’s around you and enjoy the beautiful country we’re lucky to call home. You don’t need to be an athlete or purchase expensive gear to embark on meaningful and soul-quenching adventures! You don’t even need a vehicle! Just grab your phone, plan a route, tie your boots laces and jump on a train. It’s that simple.
Follow our journey and discover new walking routes and tips to make the most of your time outdoors.
See you out there,
Jamie & Ludo
